One of the most common questions we get at Pallet Plug 614 is: "What's actually in those pallets?" It's a fair question... and the answer depends a lot on which retailer the pallet came from. Let's break down what you can typically expect from two of the most popular sources: Target and Amazon.
Target Liquidation Pallets
Target is known for carrying a wide range of merchandise, and their liquidation pallets reflect that variety. Here's what you'll commonly find:
- Home goods — Kitchenware, bedding, décor, and storage solutions
- Clothing and accessories — Seasonal apparel, shoes, and handbags
- Electronics — Headphones, smart home devices, and small appliances
- Toys and games — Especially common around the holidays
- Health and beauty — Skincare, vitamins, and personal care items
Target pallets are typically 99% new. However, Many resellers specifically seek out Target pallets for their brand recognition, style and resale value.
Amazon Liquidation Pallets
Amazon's liquidation inventory is massive and diverse... reflecting the sheer mass of what's sold on their platform. Common finds include:
- Electronics and accessories — Phone cases, cables, smart speakers, tablets
- Books and media — Often in excellent condition
- Kitchen and household — Instant Pots, air fryers, cleaning supplies
- Clothing — A wide range of brands and sizes
- Third-party seller returns — These can be more unpredictable in quality
Amazon pallets can be especially lucrative for electronics resellers, but they require careful inspection since items may arrive without original packaging or with missing accessories.
What to Expect When You Open a Pallet
Whether it's Target or Amazon, here's the general experience of receiving and opening a liquidation pallet:
- Delivery or pickup — Pallets typically arrive shrink-wrapped on a wooden pallet, weighing anywhere from 200 to 1,500+ lbs.
- Initial sort — You'll want to sort items by category, condition, and resale potential right away.
- Condition assessment — Check for damage, missing parts, and whether items power on (for electronics).
- Research and pricing — Look up comparable sold listings on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, or Amazon to set your prices.
- List and sell — The faster you move inventory, the better your cash flow.
Tips for First-Time Pallet Buyers
If this is your first pallet, start small. A single mixed merchandise pallet in the $400-600 range is a great way to learn the process without overcommitting. Take notes on what sold well and what didn't — that data will guide your next purchase.
And remember: the goal isn't to love every item in the pallet. It's to make sure the overall lot is profitable.
